involved with promoting and celebrating the golden voice :

Saigal Sangeet Saritha, New Delhi

Dinesh Sharma, President

We are like-minded people who came together in 1972 to foster the memory of K.L. Saigal. We also sing the music of Punkuj Mullick, who composed songs for Saigal. We hold programmes throughout the country and promote Saigal's music by presenting his songs in our voices.

Our biggest project is to bring out a collection of 200 published songs of K.L. Saigal. These are in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Persian and Punjabi.

The government has released a commemorative Saigal stamp. Now we are trying to convince it to institute an award in the memory of the legendary singer.

Way back in 1972, businessman Dinesh Sharma, then a student of Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, formed Saigal Sangeet Sarita, a group which organised evenings to celebrate the golden voice. “Sometimes the audience was as large as 3,000 but everyone listened in pin-drop silence,” says Sharma.

Since then, every year, the group hosts annual functions to celebrate the singer’s birth anniversary. “During one of our recent functions in Gurgaon about 25 per cent of the audience was young,” he says
