Saigal Sing-Alike :

Ninan Koshi

While in college, Ninan Koshi, Former Director General (Road Development) &. Addl. Secretary to the Govt. of India, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, used to spend almost all of his pocket money on Saigal records that cost Rs 5 each. He has a collection of 400 records of classic songs.

Ninan Koshi of Delhi thinks the same. His affair with Saigal began the day he heard Karoon kya aas niraash bhai on his father's gramophone in 1943. "I didn't understand the lyrics, but the music and the voice were too good," says Ninan, 68, now a resident of Delhi.

"Due to my father's opposition I waited till I came to Delhi to learn music." Like Saigal, Ninan mastered Bengali to learn Rabindra Sangeet.
